PRESS RELEASESAtlanta, GA –Micron Optics introduces the new os7100, an optical accelerometer optimized for long term measurements on outdoor installations. Designed in response to customer demand, the os7100 joins optical strain and temperature sensors to provide a complete optical solution for monitoring civil structures.
Based on Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) technology, the os7100 is inherently compatible with FBG based strain and temperature sensors, thereby enabling comprehensive fiber-based sensing networks. This is important to customers monitoring bridges as well as other outdoor structures as optical sensors are immune to EMI, lightning and corrosion. Those features, along with the fact that optical sensors require no calibration, mean no routine maintenance or annual replacement of sensors as conventional electrical gages commonly require. In addition, the os7100 can be multiplexed through a coupler network; so dozens of sensors share one fiber, reducing the bulk and weight of cabling and reducing the number of instruments needed to collect data.
Micron Optics, a leading provider of optical sensing systems, offers a comprehensive portfolio of components and instruments for Optical Sensing, Biotech and Telecom. Built upon its solid technology foundation, Micron Optics' products are the benchmark for FBG-based optical sensors, industry-leading instrumentation and sensing system software. Founded in 1990, Micron Optics is a privately held company based in Atlanta, Georgia (USA).
