UPCOMING EVENTSThe 2010 SEM Annual Conference & Exposition will be held this year at the Crowne Plaza Hotel & Conference Center at Historic Union Station in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Society for Experimental Mechanics (SEM) was founded to "further the knowledge of stress and strain analysis and related technologies." The annual conference and exhibit showcases new developments in the field of experimental mechanics.
On Thursday, June 10, Alan Turner, Micron Optics Optical Sensing Specialist, will present "Structural Monitoring of Wind Turbine Blades Using Fiber Optic Bragg Grating Strain Sensors" during Session 084 Experimnental Mechanics in Wind Energy. It will highlight Micron Optics work with Sandia Lab's S-Blade from the time of the blade's construction, through mounting on a turbine in West Texas, to laboratory testing at NREL's Boulder, Colorado facility. The results will be of interest to anyone working with complex composite structures, not just the wind turbine community
